Chapped Lips -

A common problem of all ages, dry and cracked lips can be very uncomfortable. There are many reasons for chapped lips including dry, cold weather, dehydration, B-vitamin deficiencies, sensitivity or allergy to lip products, toothpaste or mouthwash, and licking the lips.

The best approach for chapped lips is a soothing, moisturizing lip balm applied frequently throughout the day. Choose a lip balm with all natural ingredients – pure vegetable oils and butters with beeswax to provide a safe, moisturizing barrier. Organic coconut oil is an ideal moisturizer for the lips, very mild, gentle and soothing. Organic cocoa butter is rich and creamy, perfect for the lips. Soothing and healing herbs like Calendula are ideal for topical application to the lips and skin. Avoid flavored lip balms as they tend to encourage licking the lips, and may cause sensitivity or allergy in some people.

Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of liquids, and ensure adequate vitamins and minerals with a daily multivitamin-mineral supplement.

Calendula - I have found this wonderful plant to be very helpful in healing burns and other wounds. It is very soothing as well as antibiotic. Place a good amount of Calendula lip balm on chapped lips, reapplying as needed.
